Careers in Caring
Careers in Caring is aimed at those entering the caring profession, having had little or no previous experience. In the current economic climate, there are more jobs in caring advertised for carers than practically anything else, with the emphasis on care in the home. Often, however, the introduction to caring is brief, as agencies are pressured and the workload on staff is heavy. This book therefore serves as a detailed survey of caring as a career, and is authored by a professional who has worked for most of her nursing life in the homes of patients requiring care. It offers practical and management insight into the role of the carer, and is infused throughout with a sense of the pleasure and satisfaction to be gained from working in the community. It would be a mistake, however, to regard this text as a rulebook. As author Gill Pharaoh points out, ‘I would like to think that Careers in Caring may help the beginner to greater confidence,’ while it is certain to furnish the experienced carer with a deeper understanding.
